Gunnison Valley Observatory- June 30, 2012

  • The observatory will be open every Friday & Saturday night from June 15th through September 15th for public viewing.

  • Gates to the facility will typically open by 7:30 p.m. and programs will begin close to sunset.

  • The evening will consist of brief astronomy related lectures and multiple scope viewing opportunities, including viewing the night sky through the observatory’s 30” telescope.

  • Admission is by donation and no reservations are required

  • The suggested donation for adults is $5.00

  • The suggested donation for children is $3.00

Gunnison Valley Observatory offers access to professional quality star gazing and knowledge of astronomy. Our 30-inch reflector telescope maximizes our thin and unpolluted Rocky Mountain atmosphere to bring distant astronomical vistas to the eyes of residents and visitors of the Gunnison Valley.
The 2011 Gunnison Valley Observatory’s regular season schedule is an exceptional program all summer long with science educators enlightening us at every event. Crested Butte Farmers' Market- June 17, 2012

The Crested Butte Farmers Market is dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture and farm-to-consumer sales within Crested Butte.  The Crested Butte Farmers Market offers organic and certified naturally grown vegetables, fruits and herbs, pasture-raised and grass-finished meats, wild-caught fish, artisanal cheese, breads, jams, jellies and pickles as well as an assortment of locally produced arts and crafts.

Waterfall Creek Trail- June 17, 2012

JUNE 17, SUN. 9.00am WATERFALL CREEK 

A loop run on the Fenceline trail parallel to Cement Creek Road and then climbing and returning on the Waterfall Creek cutoff trail. Views of Italian Mountain and a run through aspen and evergreen woods. Distance is about 7 miles all on single track trail. Meet at the Fenceline trailhead about 6 miles up Cement Creek road.

Taylor Park Fishing Derby- June 9, 2012

Taylor Park Marina sits on the southern edge of Taylor Park Reservoir. At an elevation of 9300' the skies are blue, the air is light, crisp and best of all clear. We at Taylor Park Marina however can eliminate the need to bring your own equipment along for your ultimate fishing experience. They rent fishing boats, pontoons, and rent or sell all your fishing equipment needs. Taylor Park Marina carries a full line of fishing lures and bait as well as beverages and snacks for the "people needs". 

An annual Taylor Park Marina Fishing Derby is held each year and offers cash prizes for longest northern pike, largest pike by weight, most pike caught, and largest trout caught in the Taylor Park Reservor. Registration begins at 6am the morning of the Derby, with eligible fishing times between 7am to 5pm. There is an entry fee per person. Registration for the kids division is free, with non-cash prizes available.

Snodgrass Trail- June 7, 2012

JUNE 7, THUR. 6.00pm SNODGRASS TRAIL
An out and back run on the Snodgrass trail through aspen groves and lupines from Washington Gulch to just short of the Gothic road. Maximum distance of 6 miles but run shorter if you prefer. Meet at the Alpineer in Crested Butte to carpool at 6pm or at the Washington Gulch trailhead at 6.20pm.
