The mission of Ski For Hope is to use skiing as an avenue to raise local awareness and funding for those challenged with cancer. Ski For Hope will work locally with Living Journeys in the Gunnison Valley hosting ski races and non-competitive ski events that will raise funds. The funds will be used to offer emotional and financial support to our friends and neighbors living with cancer. Skiing represents to us a metaphor for hope and positive forward movement during the tough moments. We hope to inspire you to ski for a greater cause and make a difference. Ski For Hope!
The Ski for Hope Nordic Challenge will take place on Saturday March 2, 2013. It will be comprised of 3 distances, 30K, 10K and 3K. Glasses tinkle, friends laugh, and
enticing aromas waft from the kitchen as you sit down to a gourmet meal.
There’s no way to truly grasp the unique beauty of a special dinner at the
Magic Meadows yurt than to experience it for yourself. Grab your friends and
family, your skis or your snowshoes, and join us for one of these truly
memorable dinners.
Guests ski or snowshoe out to the
yurt at your own pace. The trail to the yurt is about a mile and is mostly
level with a few rolling hills, taking about 30 – 45 minutes for most skiers.
If you’re new to skiing, snowshoeing is a great option. If you’re unfamiliar
with our trails, we can arrange for a guide to meet you at the trailhead at
5:30–just let us know if you’d like this service! We recommend all guests bring
a headlamp or flashlight, and do stop by the Nordic Center ahead of time to
pick up your trail passes and a map.

In Tim O’Brien’s music, things come together. The uncanny intersection of traditional and contemporary elements in his songwriting, his tireless dedication to a vast and still-expanding array of instruments, and his ongoing commitment to place himself in as many unique and challenging musical scenarios as possible has made him a key figure in today’s thriving roots music scene – and well beyond it.
O’Brien’s presence – be it as a bandleader, songwriter, mentor, instrumentalist, or vocalist – has been strongly felt not only in his own rich music, but in the many recordings of his songs by such artists as the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, Dierks Bentley, Nickel Creek, Kathy Mattea, the New Grass Revival, and the Seldom Scene, and in his recorded collaborations with Steve Martin, the Chieftains, and innumerable others. Most recently, O’Brien has been performing before capacity crowds in the band of Mark Knopfler, who described O’Brien as “a master of American folk music, Irish music, Scottish music – it doesn't matter; a fine songwriter and one of my favorite singers.” 8pm Student Tickets Available WSCU students must present valid school ID when picking up tickets. If a valid ID is not presented, you will be required to cover the difference to a full price ticket. Visit Tim's website

What is the Dan Prater Memorial Cup all About? The event originated in 1980 in memory of local ski club promoter Dan Prater, a Wichita, Kansas man who fell in love with Crested Butte in the early 1970s, moved here and devoted much of his free time and financial support to helping the junior ski racers compete on the regional racing circuit.
The event is a great opportunity for socializing and sportsmanship with the country team awards (a Prater tradition) created by the late Bill Sweitzer. The kids are divided into teams upon arrival and compete not only with race results but must also show good sportsmanship, do good deeds and help others while they are here to be rewarded with great prizes that Dan’s daughter, local Stephanie Prater, receives from the ski industry.
This approach helps build long-lasting relationships and supports the whole “Team Spirit” aspect of things. The community helps make this event extra special by donating money for the event t-shirt and Red Lady Realty, Artesans, Maxwells, Lobar, Secret stash, McGill’s provide a wonderful barbecue on Saturday prepared by the Garcia family, Bryson family and the Prater family for the racers, parents and coaches.
Help your kids get into the fun of things! Kids take their nation pride seriously and makes this race truly unique! Colored Gatorade is a great way to mark up the snow around the race venue. Colored markers, colored duck tape, poster board, anything creative that kids can use to create signs of support for their nation add to the fun. It may not be a bad idea to bring some of this with you in advance as our local resources can be limited. Have fun and get creative! Results Can Be Found athttp://live-timing.com/races.php
