Rocky Mtn Bio Lab's on Stream Ecology Exploration Experience, August 10th

The Rocky Mountain Bio Lab's Exploration Experience highlights Stream Ecology!


 The streams in Crested are intensely packed with life and give ecologists opportunities to study predator-prey interactions, consumer-resource relationships, and competitive interrelations. We will be visiting weatherports, cattle-tanks, and natural streams that scientists at the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab use to study aquatic insects, trophic cascades, and the effects of environmental change on mountain stream communities. Dr. Bobbi Peckarsky from Cornell University will discuss the results and impacts of the research done at RMBL.

The Rocky Mountain Bio Lab's Exploration Experience highlights the Yellow-Bellied Marmot!

The scientists at RMBL have been studying the yellow-bellied marmot since 1962. Join us for the celebration of 50 years of marmot research! Dr. Dan Blumstein, who studies marmot dens and listens to their alarm calls, will be available to talk about his research on marmot anti-predator behavior, communication, and response to climate change!

Rocky Mt. Bio Lab- Invasive Plant Research and Management Exploration Experience, July 21, 2011

The Rocky Mountain Bio Lab's Exploration Experience highlights Invasive Plant Research and Management!
 
From 9am-11am, join Dr. Rebecca Irwin of Dartmouth College and Dr. Jennifer Reithel, the RMBL Science Director, for an exploration and interactive discussion of invasive plant research! You'll travel to research sites, where scientists study the Canada Thistle, Smooth Brome, and Yellow Toadflax, among many other plants, and learn hands-on about the active management of weeds at the RMBL. Lunch in the dining hall will be provided at no fee!

Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory Breeding Bird Survey- June 18, 2011

Gothic Breeding Bird Survey!

Spend the morning spotting the birds of Gothic! Breakfast starts at 6:00am, and the survey begins at 6:30am.

Adults and children over 12 (with an adult) Enjoy a beautiful morning outdoors! We invite you to explore the world of field scientists and learn how they use the Elk Mountains to understand our world. You will step into the shoes of scientists to learn about their field research as we explore each week's topic. Each tour includes moderate hiking as you follow your guide up the winding footpaths of Gothic to research meadows, forests, and streams.Join us on Thursdays from 9 - 11 a.m. and enjoy a delicious lunch in the RMBL Dining Hall.
