A Night with the Pharaohs presented by WSCU Students- January 26, 2013

WSCU Students for Democracy present "A Night with the Pharaohs Egyptian Dance Party" at the Lodge Ballroom in the Lodge at Mountaineer Square. Come support the students in their fundraiser for an upcoming Egypt trip with food, a live DJ, costume contest, great prizes, a huge pyramid and a photo booth. Pre-sale $5 for students, $8 for the public. At the door $7 for students, $10 for general public. Special lodging discounts for students at the Grand Lodge that evening. 


On January 26th a group of students will be hosting an Egyptian themed party. The proceeds from this party will go towards lowering the cost of the group's trip to Egypt this May! There will be dancing, a cash bar, food, prize giveaways, costume contests, and more!! 

For students, tickets will be 5 pre-sale and 7 dollars at the door!
For the public, tickets will be 7 pre-sale and 10 dollars at the door!

Elk Mountain Grand Traverse- March 29, 2013

Elk Mountain Grand Traverse by Outdoor Research and Dynafit

The 16th Annual GORE-TEX® Elk Mountains Grand Traverse will be held on Friday March 29, 2013!

The Grand Traverse is an extraordinary 40-mile backcountry ski race between the towns of Crested Butte and Aspen, CO. Depending on weather, the start is usually at midnight from Crested Butte, often in sub-zero temperatures; the racers traverse Colorado’s spectacular Elk Mountains. NOTE: for 2012 the start will be 11:00PM at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

The course is based on the mail routes of the 1880's, connecting the two towns. In this extreme endurance event, racers will climb more than 7,800 vertical feet and navigate in a self-supported backcountry race that tests them physically and mentally. To maintain safety in the backcountry, racers compete in teams of two and are required to carry mandatory gear. Held annually since 1998, it’s earned a reputation as a true test of toughness for elite local, national and international athletes.

Glasses tinkle, friends laugh, and enticing aromas waft from the kitchen as you sit down to a gourmet meal. There’s no way to truly grasp the unique beauty of a special dinner at the Magic Meadows yurt than to experience it for yourself. Grab your friends and family, your skis or your snowshoes, and join us for one of these truly memorable dinners.

Guests ski or snowshoe out to the yurt at your own pace. The trail to the yurt is about a mile and is mostly level with a few rolling hills, taking about 30 – 45 minutes for most skiers. If you’re new to skiing, snowshoeing is a great option. If you’re unfamiliar with our trails, we can arrange for a guide to meet you at the trailhead at 5:30–just let us know if you’d like this service! We recommend all guests bring a headlamp or flashlight, and do stop by the Nordic Center ahead of time to pick up your trail passes and a map.

Starting at 3pm under the OB Tent near the Red Lady lift, register for our fun races and compete to win fame, glory and some fun OB Swag items.Races start at 4:30pm at the Base Area.Sample Oskar Blues finest brews onsite at 9380 Bar Deck in the Elevation Hotel from 3-5pm.

Nordic Center Ice Skating

Our ice rink is an outdoor rink. It is open to the public from early December to late February, weather dependent. The ice rink closes in March.  The use of our rink is FREE, if you bring your skates.

Skate Rentals: are available for $9/Adults and $7/Kids or Seniors. Hockey and Figure skates available.

The Town of Crested Butte schedules open skate times, so please call their ICE LINE at 349-0974 for open skate times. Information on Hockey Programs is available at CB Town Hall at 349-5338.

Alley Loop Marathon- February 2, 2013

27th Annual Alley Loop Nordic Marathon
February 2, 2013

Part of the American Ski Marathon Series and an American Birkebeiner qualifying race, the Alley Loop is also Crested Butte’s largest costume party and biggest Nordic event of the year. The Alley Loop’s unique course starts and finishes in the heart of downtown Crested Butte, and in between it meanders through snow-lined alleys, behind false-fronted stores and restaurants, over footbridges and alongside residences. The adult races head out to the expertly groomed Nordic trails on the pristine outskirts of Crested Butte. In addition to the fun races for all ages and abilities, the event also features a Friday night ski-pub crawl,  “Taste of the Alley,”  and an awards ceremony with great prizes and a raffle.

Reel Rock 7 Film Tour- January 17 at 7pm

The seventh annual Reel Rock Film Tour brings the best in climbing and adventure films to local audiences across the globe, with more than 65,000 attending nearly 300 shows worldwide during the 2011 tour. This year’s tour has already sold out dozens of shows both in the U.S. and abroad.

Reel Rock 7 features four films.

Dura, Dura featuring sport climber Chris Sharma, in a battle with 19-year-old Adam Ondra to establish the world’s first 5.15c route, while Sasha DiGiulian and Daila Ojeda shred women’s standards with strong ascents of their own.

The Shark’s Fin chronicles legendary alpinist Conrad Anker’s 20-year obsession with The Shark’s Fin, a spectacular unclimbed granite buttress on the 6,310-meter Mount Meru in Indian.

In Wide Boys, the third film, two proper British lads, Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker, cross the pond to eat up the gnarliest wide cracks in the West, including the first ascent of the world’s hardest off-width known as Century Crack

Honnold 3.0, featuring Alex Honnold, who has become known as the boldest solo climber of his generation.

Tickets are $12 in advance at The Alpineer at 419 6th Street in Crested Butte. Tickets at the door will be $15. No tickets are available at the Center for the Arts.
