The Scrugglers – August 13th, 2013 $5.00 cover for Adults, kids free

Good timing, rowdy, mountain “tubgrass” from Durango, Colorado. Slaves to the bluegrass beat, bring your dancing boots, this power-trio is known to throw down for the faithful. Coming up on fours years together, the Scrugglers have become seasoned and have gained traction as a hard working, regional band of Southwest Colorado. Known as trio built around the big sound the of 2-stringed electrified washtub bass joined by banjo and mandolin.

The Scrugglers aren’t an Earl Scruggs cover band (although they do some of his material). The Scrugglers instead try to uphold a tradition of improvisation and creativity with acoustic music and especially the banjo. Part jug band, part jam band, the Scruggler’s material spans from old-time traditional to campground jam circle favorites to danceable rock and roll covers to original material.
Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with our bar & grill.  The band will start about 6:30 p.m.  Adult tickets are $5.00 and children under 18 are free.  Tickets are available only at the gate.  We have Parker Pastures burgers, Mulay’s sausage, corn, chips Luna Bakery Buns and cookies available as well.  We also serve gluten free buns and veggie burgers too.

The Empty Bottle Blues Band with Opal Moon- August 12, 2013

Come celebrate Gunnison County’s local talent! The Empty Bottle Blues Band from Crested Butte and the Opal Moon Band from Gunnison finish out the final Alpenglow of the season. Take two strong fistfuls of Freddie King and Muddy Waters. Stir them up with smatterings of the Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers and Eric Clapton. Season with original lyrics and songs whose subject matter swirls around the blues like a swamp around cypress – namely women. Throw in some J.J. Cale for good measure. Finally, take one bottle of bourbon. Empty it. This is the spicy gumbo that is The Empty Bottle Blues Band and they will fire you up like a hot southern night from the slow rockin’ blues to the git down n’ boogie blues. The local spice is Aaron Tomcak on bass, Tommy Rudder on drums, Frank Mesiti on guitar and vocals, Tyler Lucas on guitar, and Chuck McKenrick on keyboards. The Opal Moon Band is a honky tonk and Western group playing an eclectic variety of country and western, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll. Their motto is “If you request it, we’ll play it, or something like it!” The Opal Moon Bands is Evelyn Roper, vocals and guitar; Dio Musquiz Jr, bass; Sean Turner, guitar and vocals; and Mike Alex, drums.

The Center for the Arts in Crested Butte, CO is proud to present comedian Paula Poundstone in concert Sunday, August 11th. 25 years ago Paula Poundstone climbed on a Greyhound bus and traveled across the country -- stopping in at open mic nights at comedy clubs as she went.  A high school drop-out, she went on to become one of the great humorists of our time. You can hear her through your laughter as a regular panelist on NPR's popular rascal of a weekly news quiz show, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.  She tours regularly, performing standup comedy across the country, causing Bob Zany with the Boston Globe to write: "Poundstone can regale an audience for several hours with her distinctive brand of wry, intelligent and witty comedy."  Audience members may put it a little less elegantly:  "I peed my pants."   While there is no doubt that Poundstone is funny, the thing that probably separates her from the pack of comics working today and that has made her a legend among comics and audiences alike is her ability to be spontaneous with a crowd.  Poundstone says:  "No two shows I do are the same. It's not that I don't repeat material. I do.

My shows, when they're good, and I like to think they often are, are like a cocktail party. When you first get there, you talk about how badly you got lost and how hard it was to find parking. Then you tell a story about your kids or what you just saw on the news. You meet some new people and ask them about themselves.  Then, someone says, "Tell that story you used to tell," and then someone on the other side of the room spills a drink, and you mock them.  No one ever applauds me when I leave a party, though. I think they high five."
Showtime:  8:00PM / Tickets:  $35 early bird and $40 regular / Call:  970-349-7487
