September Event Calendar

fall in crested butte The September Event Calendar is up!  New this year? Lisa Marie Presley is coming to Crested Butte. That caught my eye! Don't miss the beer and chili cook-off ! And there are lots of great events in September when the leaves are golden and the air is crisp and it is my faaavooriteee time of year.

The Paving of Cottonwood Pass

fishing the taylor  They are currently paving and widening the road along Taylor River and plan to extend to the top of Cottonwood pass.

My opinion? This is a game changer. Finally a game changer for the Crested Butte winter economy. Denverites would be able to drive to CB safely to ski in a bit more time than it takes to drive to the I-70 resorts, but with alot more surety as to arrival time. Brilliant!!!!! Hope they don't allow trucks.

The Gonzalo Bergara Quartet - August 10, 2013

The Gonzalo Bergara Quartet

The all-acoustic Gonzalo Bergara Quartet plays a modern variant of 1930’s Django Reinhardt-inspired gypsy jazz. Composer and lead guitarist Gonzalo Bergara mixes a cascade of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina. His first CD, PorteƱa Soledad, was Editor’s Pick in Guitar Player Magazine, and Vintage Guitar Magazine called it a "masterpiece." The Gonzalo Bergara Quartet consists of Gonzalo Bergara on lead guitar, Jeffrey Radaich on rhythm guitar, Leah Zeger on violin, and Brian Netzley on upright bass. The music is heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France, as well as the traditional jazz and music of Bergara's true home, Buenos Aires. "Gonzalo Bergara’s music exists in a way that very little music does. He has lavished such care on every phrase, built each arrangement with such lapidary precision and pared away anything extraneous, the music becomes sculpture. It has weight, density, gravity. This is serious….and deeply moving.”

International String Trio at the Gypsy Jazz Fest in Crested Butte- August 9, 2013

The International String Trio

International String Trio is a group of exceptionally talented musicians, who hail from three different corners of the world, but share a rigorous training experience at Berklee College of Music. Founded by Russian-born guitarist and arranger Slava Tolstoy, with Japanese upright bassist Ippei Ichimaru and English violinist Ben Powell, the trio has quickly won over audiences with its tight, energetic interpretations of everything from favorite folk melodies to Django Reinhardt numbers, to classical string pieces by revered composers. The trio spans jazz, world and classical sounds with an easy-going finesse that gives even simple pop melodies great depth and lyricism.
